Boy Howdy!! It has been quite a long time since I have added to this blog. Oh so much has happened, however most of it is summarized on the main pages of my website www.jackiezane.com. Some of the highlights being a guest star spot on 'Two and a Half Men' which has been harvesting some nice residual checks.. especially with all the attention on Charlie Sheen. ... and for the record.. yes I met him. And no, he was not a freak. He was completely professional, friendly, and polite. Granted I didn't spend a lot of time with him or even hold a conversation, but regardless my experience was a positive one.

Another highlight from the past couple of years was a featured role on the film 'Water for Elephants'.. which I wrote about for various fan blogs. These are all linked on the news and reviews page of my website as well.

I worked on a short film project for The Doorpost. Such an amazing group of people. I had such a blast on my overnight shoot! Great set, costumes, story, and crew. It is currently competing as one of the 10 finalists.

At the height of the Great Depression, the showman of a renowned circus leads his troupe through the devastated American landscape, lifting the spirits of audiences along the way. During their travels they discover a man without limbs at a carnival sideshow, but after an intriguing encounter with the showman he becomes driven to hope against everything he has ever believed. Starring Eduardo Verástegui (Bella), Doug Jones (Pan's Labyrinth, Fantastic Four) and featuring the debut performance of Nick Vujicic.

Director Martin King has boldly tapped the vein of of 50s era B movies in his latest comedy feature "Attack of the Slime People." Though the film's title conjures up visions of goop covered monsters terrorizing wholesome Americans, that is not what today's film is about....well....not exactly.Enter Buddy Flavanoid (Played by Robert Tiffi), an over the top film maker with an unquenchable lust for young starlets and psychotic ambitions to become Hollywood's top director. Modeled in the vein of legendary film maker Ed Wood, Flavanoid is a collection of cliche characters all wrapped up in one neat little homicidal package. There is an obvious danger in featuring such a mixed up character in a film of this type, however, Tiffi really makes the walking cartoon character that is Flavanoid work.

Another stand out in the film is actress Jackie Zane, who plays the large bubbly blond Flavanoid groupie. Early on in the film, Zane's character is nothing more than a mascot to the crazed director who provides her own cute comedic charms to the film. However, as the film moves forward she transforms to a protagonist who will stop at nothing to fulfill her sexual desires for Flavanoid.

"Well, Tiffi's Buddy is like a cartoon character wandering about in the real world. Except with a real bat that crushes real skulls. It's one way to look at it, too, because unless the guy was a cartoon--who would want to work with him? His insane grin, overworked eyebrows, and how his hands have their fingers splayed out completely in eighty percent of the film...and another ten percent of that they're wrapped around that baseball bat. Nobody seems to bat an eye at this maniac in their midst, so we've left the real world way behind.

If anything this makes Sydney (Ingleman) stick out like a sore thumb, as he seems to be the only other person playing up to Level 11 like Tiffi. Zane, who plays the weird but kind but voyeuristic but helpful but sinister Marge quite effectively (and hilariously), seems positively normal compared to these two.

And that's not a bad thing, don't get me wrong. I appreciate whacked out films as much as the next guy with no life. And this has some moments of just sheer greatness in it. "

September I booked an AWESOME gig as a.....wait for it.... model. Yep, thats right! They were looking for heavyset models for a print shoot. It was a photo journalism gig for an international magazine called Paris Match and I got to work with the reknowned photographer Gerard Rancinan. Check him out at http://www.rancinan.com/. I was also interviewed for the article by Caroline Gaudriault. Article and photo should be coming out soon...

October and November I did a little bit of extra work again and succeeded in finally getting my third SAG voucher!! woohoo! Now just waiting for the Screen Actors Guild to acknowlege it. That final voucher happened on the set of the feature film "Burning Palms"... Tho look for me in an upcoming episode of Kath & Kim as well.

December has been a busy month. I was cast in a USC student film short called 'Sourpuss' and recently wrapped filming.

I was also honored to be asked back to revisit the role of head angel in "It's A Wonderful Life - A Live Radio Play" again this year. The first week of performances have gone well.. one more week to go!!

What makes this film so hilarious is its protagonist, Buddy Flavinoid, who’s roving eyebrows, wild eyes and murderous rage are unmistakably unique. He reminds me a of Ren from Ren and Stimpy, with his stress and paranoia spilling over into all sorts of physical comedy. The film is also interesting in that it’s a film about a film that never gets made (in an odd way, this would make it akin to cult classic American Movie)......For a low budget movie, this is a fully-realized work of art, with great writing, directing, acting, look and style. It’s at once timeless and modern. All I can say is: find and see this one-of-a-kind comedy that both satirizes a genre and turns it completely on its head! "Of course a film cannot usually stand well on the performance of one actor, no matter how good a job they do. Fortunately ATTACK OF THE SLIME PEOPLE doesn’t have to depend solely on Robert Tiffi’s fantastic performance. The entire cast did a terrific job, mostly playing “straight men” to Flavinoid’s maniacal filmmaker. In addition to the quality of acting found in ATTACK OF THE SLIME PEOPLE, the film also had high production values across the board. A collection of classic cars, good costumes and creative camera work were used to create an effective illusion of 1950’s Hollywood to the point that it would be easy to forget when the movie was made. ATTACK OF THE SLIME PEOPLE isn’t the cult sci-fi/horror film that you might expect from the title. I've neglected my blog this past year as my focus was primarily on my nuptials. However there were a few happenings of note:

In June, a clip from the film 'Attack of the Slime People' was used in a skit on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Although I did not appear in the clip used, it got the buzz going and hopefully the film will be completed soon!

In September, I flew to Pocatello, Idaho to film on location for the independent film 'Doris' Mouse Earrings'. Yes this was a film that was revisted. It was re-written, re-cast, and re-shot.. and incidently made FRONT PAGE NEWS in the small town. Click here to read the article.

In December, the theater bug got me again and I performed in a live radio play of 'Its A Wonderful Life'. Radio drama was a new medium for me and we had a blast!! The production turned out great and the audiences were both abundant and fabulous!!!

Here's to hoping the writers strike gets resolved and they receive what is due to them.. and that 2008 is a plentiful and prospherous year!!

Just an update on last week's performance of WATCH TV! Well first of all, the cast and crew worked so hard and did a phenomenal job. I don't think any of us really expected a huge turn out. We were doing the sketch comedy show for the love of it. We were a little worried that our idea of humor might not whet the general audience member's appetite. --As we peeked through the curtains.. our expected 10-20 people suddenly grew as the audience poured in. There was well over 100 in my guestimation and they were excited and amped. We fed off of that and performed with gusto!
The audience LOVED it. I think I even heard some actual Guffaw'ing out there.. They laughed, they snickered, and they cheered. It was a fantastic feeling!! The feedback was overwhelming as it was not your average sketch comedy show that one normally expects. No little black box with folding chairs here. We had use of The Colony Theatre in Burbank. So the audience got to relax in plush seats as they were treated to an array of skits with lights and sound and video clip 'commercials' on a projection screen!
It was a blast as the show ended with our last sketch called 'Chef Idol' which was a spoof of American Idol meets Iron Chef.. with celebrity judges and celebrity contestants. Richard Simmons won with his big sausage and potato balls with creamy gravy. OK America, enjoy your big plate of penis!!!

I've been taking a break since the show closed, tho I am always looking for my next project!!! But I finally had a chance to sit down and read the book that was written by Sanedria Potter. I mentioned her in a previous post. I am not a fan of reading books. I don't normally enjoy it and find it a 'chore', even if I do like the story. However I sat down and read this book in just two sittings. Any avid reader would blow through it in just one. Its engaging and I found myself not wanting to put it down. Take a moment and shell out just a few shillings to support a fellow artist and friend.. and buy this book. I submitted the following review on Amazon.com as well as BarnesandNoble.com..

'Behind the Pulpit - I Still Remember' is a story of love, hate, hardship and faith told through the eyes of a child. The language of the prose is written in the full flavor of the child telling the story. As the author's own history was the inspiration, it is definitely told as an eye-witness account. The characters are colorful, raw, and real. Potter does an excellent job stirring emotions of all levels in the reader. Its a quick read that leaves the reader wanting more. Its message is inspiring and Potter uses humor to remind the reader that even in the hardest times, there is always a reason to be thankful.

Way to go Sanedria!!!

Conversations Closed...

Mother's Day was the final performance of 'Conversations 'Bout The Girls'. Our nine week run culminated to a sold out house which felt the connection of the eight women on stage. We were greeted by an audience that truly embraced the subject matter and those of us portraying the various characters. We laughed, cried, and moved many folk. It was a nice feeling to leave on such a high note. Perhaps we will reunite one day.. til then we are all sisters rooting each other on!!

Edisol W. Dotson

Last weekend I attended at pre-production staged reading of a work by Edisol W. Dotson. The event was by invitation and I was pleased and flattered to be among the critical chosen. Edisol or 'Eddie' as he sometimes introduces himself, played opposite of me as my brother in the independent film 'Attack of the Slime People' which is still in post production.

The staged reading was for a work called 'the hard & heady life of my penis' and in a word, it was phenomenal. Never have I been so affected by a piece. It was humorous, tender, revealing, intimate and thought provoking. It did feel a little rough in areas as the anger and bitterness that was certainly necessary to exude part of the charm took over. I felt it may still need a little polishing. But it was definitely edgy, raw, and dynamic. I know he is looking to develop it further and is in need of a director.. so if you are looking for a ground breaking project... contact him and see for yourself what my rave is all about. (UPDATE: He is no longer in the need of a director. (See below for his upcoming performance dates!)

Eddie is not afraid to share intimate details in this very eye-opening piece of work that is written with such emotion. He describes growing up with an abusive father, living life as a gay man, and the obstacles he has encountered in his vast and various relationships. I laughed, I felt his discern, and I was definitely moved. Eddie shows masterful skill as a writer and performer.. even tho it was merely a reading. The audience of 30 or so people were all mesmerized and at full attention during the 90 minute prose. Its worth checking out at http://www.edisol.com/ --tell him his Slime People Sister sent ya! Behind The Pulpit - by Sanedria Arne Potter

Last weekend was just loaded with artistic enlightenment. I attended a book signing for a piece titled 'Behind the Pulpit: I still remember' by Sanedria Arne Potter. If that name sounds familiar to you.. scroll down a few entries on my blog... you will see she wrote and directed the TV pilot 'Dispatch' I worked on last year. She had a lovely event at the Lucy Florence Art Gallery in Los Angeles. I was honored to be among those invited and went to show my support. She not only had the beautiful historical gallery booked as a location, but she had a classy spread of pasta, salad, strawberries and baklava out for her guests. We mingled, soaked in the culture, and nibbled. Then Sanedria got up to read an except from her book. The smooth voiced novelist proceeded to enchant the onlookers with her charm and engaging words. Her eyes welled up as she came to a stopping point in which she explained that her mother had passed since the writing of her novel. It was very touching as the chapter highlighted her mother's strength and love for her children. I have a copy of the book and can't wait to read it. I have had several requests recently to update my blog! WOW! I didn't realize so many people read this!! THANK YOU!! Therefore, my apologies for the lack of posts. To answer your questions, yes I did indeed take a brief hiatus over the holidays! I have been selective in my submissions this year, only sending in for a few projects. I did recently get cast in a play called 'Conversations 'Bout the Girls' . Yes, 'the girls' refers to breasts. Boobs, boobs, boobs, is what this play is all about. It has light-heartedness as well as some tender moments too. Think, Vagina Monolouges meets Tortured Eves, only without the graphic details or gut-wrenching specifics. Its thought provoking and respectful. The show consists of 8 beautiful women, in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Its a play for women, by women, that all men should see! The best part is that every performance has a different beneficiary in which portions of the proceeds are donated. Your entertainment dollar is going to a great cause. Hi there!! Ok, this is *my* first posting on this blog. Thank you to Mr. Andy Chen for his website design and original blog posting. I just wanted to fill you in on a couple of happenings:

The film Being Doctor Jack had a premiere L.A. screening to a packed audience. It has received some interest from industry professionals to possibly expand to a feature length project. Jack Thomas,Merry Colvin and the rest of Bipolar Productions were wonderful to work with and I wish them the best!! I understand the film may also make the film festival rounds... so if you are attending any of them, keep your eyes peeled.

Another piece of news is that I was cast in and filmed a TV Pilot. It is a film thesis for a student of the New York Film Academy. It is called Dispatch about the life of 911 operators. I play a wonderful character named Cecelia who is one of the dispatchers. The best of luck to Sanedria Potter in her endeavors getting the project to the networks! It would be great if it was picked up!!

The holidays are drawing near and like everywhere else, L.A. is all hustle and bustle as people try to 'get ready'. But is anyone ever really ready? My wish to you is that your holidays are wonderful and all the best in the new year.
